We are proud to share a major breakthrough in our efforts towards greener production at Ecofrost. Our production site is now equipped with a UASB reactor that not only reduces organic pollution but also produces biogas, used to generate electricity and heat. ⚡🔥

🔗 In partnership with Waterleau, we have set up a biogas pre-treatment system. Thanks to Waterleau’s BIOTIM® scrubbers, we have managed to eliminate 98% of the H2S contained in the biogas, making it safe for our cogeneration unit.

The most impressive thing? This technology works without chemicals, simplifies maintenance and minimizes operating costs.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to the environment and energy efficiency. At Ecofrost, every step counts for a more sustainable future. 🌿💧

At Ecofrost, we take our role in protecting the environment to heart, especially as a major player in the production of frozen potato products. Here are some of our latest actions in favor of ecology:

🌞 Solar Energy : We have installed new photovoltaic panels capable of generating up to 3 MWHc. Clean energy for a greener future!

💧 Water Management : With our new 1,800 m³ rainwater harvesting basin, we expect to recover approximately 20,000 m³ of water per year, reducing our reliance on non-renewable water resources.

🏢 Sustainable Building : Our new building has obtained BREEAM certification, a recognition of our commitment to sustainability and environmental efficiency.

🔄 Water Treatment : We treat and purify 140,000 m³ of wastewater annually using our advanced treatment plant, reintroducing clean water into our environment.

🥔 Biogas Plant : We have a plant capable of producing 7600.22 MWH of thermal energy. This corresponds to +- 760 households supplied with heating per year.

🔥 Energy Recovery : We capture and reuse the heat generated by line 5 of our production, thus maximizing energy efficiency.

🥔 Explanation of dry matter and weight under water! 🌟

Each batch of potatoes is tested for density and dry matter content using a starch tester. On average, our potatoes have 21% dry matter, but our goal is 29-30% to ensure crispy, less greasy fries.

📉 So we adjust the water content to achieve this superior quality. Every fry you enjoy is the result of strict standards and constant innovation!

In our very first year, we were faced with the colossal challenge of breaking into an already saturated market.

Little anecdote: 🤫

In the early days of Ecofrost, Sabine was preparing lunch, melting butter in a frying pan, when an emergency at the factory forced her to intervene quickly with Pol Vervaeke. Absorbed in solving the problem, they completely forgot about the kitchen. When they returned, they discovered a charred frying pan and a smoky kitchen, but fortunately without a fire. This incident has become a famous anecdote at Ecofrost.

Have you ever wondered what the QR code on our boxes of fries is for? 🤔This QR code allows our operators to find the item directly by scanning it, thus avoiding errors on the labels.

Previously, when an operator had to create a label for a pallet, they had to fill in everything manually 🤚, which sometimes led to errors. Today, by scanning the QR code, our system automatically detects the right product, thus printing the right label linked to the right product. Isn't that a great idea? 😎

🌱 News from the potato fields 🥔

At Ecofrost, we are intimately linked to the rhythm of nature. Growing potatoes is highly dependent on climate, making each season unique. 🌧️🌤️

On the one hand, we observe plots in bare parts. The reason ? Farmers had to split some plants in two to have enough plants

.. These operations took place in particularly humid conditions, unfortunately increasing the risk of rot.

On the other hand, growth is very variable, resulting from different planting times. Our farmers planted as soon as possible between spring showers, from mid-April to early July, which resulted in diversity in our plant development.

🌦️ We are now hoping for "typically Belgian" weather to promote continued growth, especially for the last plantings: a refreshing mix of rain and rays of sunshine.

Fingers crossed for a sufficient and quality harvest! 🤞

This project significantly improved the stability of pallets while optimizing the efficiency of the packaging process. As a result of his work, the height of the boxes was reduced, leading to lower costs and a reduction in customer complaints related to pallet stability.

Just a week ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming the children of Moulin de Bonsecours to our company. A big thank you to the Ladies Circle for their generous donation of €2000 which greatly contributed to the well-being of the children.🙌💖

Thanks to this donation, the Mill was able to enrich the children's daily lives with the arrival of animals and the installation of fun equipment such as a ping-pong table and a punching bag. A great initiative that makes their living environment even more joyful and stimulating !🏓🥊

The children not only enjoyed their visit but also plan to join our team as jobs in the future. What pride to see these young people interested in our work and considering contributing to our project!

We wish a happy Passover to the entire Jewish community. Passover is one of the three most important holidays and it will take place this year from April 22 to April 30🎉🎊

During these festive days, anything made from the five main cereals is prohibited . No more bread, pizzas and other foods having them❌🍕

During Passover and in their daily lives, the consumption of so-called Kosher foods is strongly recommended for Jews. So, it is to meet this demand that we decided to have our flakes certified as Kosher 👌

We are confident that this new certification opens up new opportunities for us in the market, strengthening our position as a trusted supplier for a diverse range of food products 🙌

🍟🌟 Preparing for the new 2024 harvest 🌟🍟

Even though we have just started the second quarter of 2024, our thoughts are already turning to the next potato harvest 🥔

It is with enthusiasm that we share with you the preliminary details for this upcoming season:

• Early potatoes: called early potatoes, are generally harvested from June/July . Planting then logically begins from March ✅
• Storage potatoes: are harvested from September and can be stored throughout the rest of the year. Traditionally, their planting starts in April 😎

BUT

As you know, this year brings its share of challenges . Excessive rain since last year has caused two major problems 💧:

• some potatoes could not be harvested last year, which is currently mobilizing farmers to remove them from the fields. Obviously, these potatoes are no longer intended for human consumption 🚜
• waterlogged soils have delayed the planting of potato plants for the 2024 harvest. However, we remain hopeful for milder weather conditions to make up for this delay 🌞

As Ecofrost is not infeasible , we would like to assure you that we will do everything possible to minimize the impact of weather conditions on our forecasts and the quality of our products 💪

Together, we are ready to face the challenges this season has in store for us and ensure a successful harvest for 2024 🙌
